This notice explains how The Liberation Club uses cookies and similar technologies, including technologies used by services embedded in or linked from our website.
What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookies are small pieces of information that a website or online service can store in your browser. Websites can also use related technologies such as local storage, session storage, scripts, pixels and other methods that store or access information on your device.
In this notice, we use the word cookies broadly to include these kinds of storage and access technologies.
What The Liberation Club website uses
We tested the public website in a clean, logged-out browser session as part of preparing this notice.
On the public pages we tested, The Liberation Club itself did not set ordinary first-party cookies, local storage or session storage.
This included the:
- home page;
- About page;
- Contact page;
- story page;
- introductory video page;
- digital purchase form before payment; and
- return to the website after a completed purchase.
Our hosting and security infrastructure may still process technical information such as IP addresses and server logs without storing a cookie in your browser. That processing is described in our Privacy Notice.
YouTube videos
Some pages contain videos hosted by YouTube, a Google service.
We embed these videos using YouTube's Privacy Enhanced Mode, using the youtube-nocookie.com domain rather than the standard YouTube embed domain.
Privacy Enhanced Mode reduces how an embedded video affects a visitor's wider YouTube browsing and advertising experience. It does not mean that no storage or access technologies are used at all.
During our testing, loading pages containing our privacy-enhanced YouTube embeds resulted in Google/YouTube cookies including:

Google may change the cookies or technologies used by its embedded player over time. The precise cookies received can also depend on browser settings, location and whether a visitor is signed into a Google account.
Substack waiting-list form
Our waiting-list page contains a subscription form provided by Substack.
Because the form is embedded from Substack, loading that page connects your browser to Substack and its infrastructure providers.
During our testing, Substack used cookies relating to security, service operation, functionality, preferences, performance and experimentation.
Examples we observed include:

Substack states that it uses categories of cookies including strictly necessary cookies, performance cookies and functionality cookies.
The exact Substack cookies and their durations may change when Substack updates its service or infrastructure.
Stripe payments
When you buy a digital publication, the purchase begins on The Liberation Club website but payment itself is completed using Stripe's hosted checkout.
When you choose to continue to secure payment, your browser leaves The Liberation Club website and opens Stripe Checkout.
Stripe uses its own cookies and similar technologies on its domains for purposes including:
- processing payments;
- fraud prevention and risk assessment;
- security and bot detection;
- maintaining a checkout session; and
- supporting Stripe Link where that feature is available.
During our testing, Stripe's hosted checkout used technologies associated with Stripe Checkout, Stripe Link, fraud prevention, security and bot detection.
These technologies are set and controlled by Stripe on Stripe's own checkout and service domains rather than by The Liberation Club website.
Stripe's individual cookies have different lifetimes. Some last only for a browser session or a few minutes, while fraud prevention identifiers may be retained for longer periods, including up to approximately one year.
Local storage and session storage
During our testing we did not observe The Liberation Club storing information in browser local storage or session storage on the public pages described above.
Third-party services may use additional technologies when you interact with their services. These technologies can change independently of The Liberation Club.
How you can control cookies
Most modern browsers allow you to view, delete or block cookies, including cookies from third-party services.
Depending on your browser, you may be able to:
- delete existing cookies;
- block all cookies;
- block third-party cookies;
- clear cookies when you close the browser; or
- change permissions for individual websites.
Blocking third-party technologies may prevent embedded features such as YouTube videos or the Substack subscription form from working correctly.
Substack, Google and Stripe may also provide their own privacy and cookie controls through their respective services.

Websites change over time. We may add, remove or update features, and third-party providers may change the technologies they use.
If our use of cookies or similar technologies changes materially, we will review this notice and any choices we provide to visitors.
